Cape Town – The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Management team will remain on high alert as a second cold front is expected to hit the province on Wednesday.
The South African Weather Service today issued warnings of heavy rain and gale force winds across the Western Cape, cautioning residents living near coastal areas.
The account, @CapeTownWeather, on the social networking site Twitter reiterated the warning – “Cape Town’s Disaster Management remain on High Alert as a second Cold front is approaching the City and will bring heavier rain,” the account tweeted.
Disaster Management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said there had yet to be reports of flooding in low-lying areas. This comes after the first of the winter rains hit the peninsula last night.
Solomons-Johannes said their teams were currently ensuring that there were no blockages in the storm water systems.
He said the Disaster Management team would continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
