Johannesburg – Bedfordview has been described as the ‘Wild West’ after a bomb explosion in a shop in the eastern Johannesburg suburb on Tuesday night. According to a report in The Times newspaper a crime intelligence officer described the blast as just the build up, saying that a storm is coming.
Two people were killed and five injured when a bomb went off in a shop, Money Point, belonging to controversial Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir.
Friends and family waited outside the Life Bedfordview Gardens Hospital as those injured in the blast were treated. According to The Times report one heavily armed man standing outside with grieving relatives warned that “blood will flow”.
This comes after a previous attempt was made on Krejcir’s life in July. He was reportedly leaving his parking spot when an explosive device was detonated from the back of a vehicle parked nearby.
Krejcir is fighting an extradition order to Czech Republic where he was sentenced in absentia to six-and-a-half years for tax fraud. He was also charged with conspiracy to murder, counterfeiting, extortion, and abduction.
