Two people were injured when a petrol tank they were working on exploded at a petrol station in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal on Thursday morning.

Paramedics arrived at the station located at the Allen and Harding Road intersection, and found the two men had sustained burns in the incident.

One of the men was in a critical condition while his colleague was moderately injured, said E24 spokesperson, Russel meiring.

“They were treated by paramedics and thereafter transported to St Augustines Hospital for further treatment,” he added.

The cause of the incident is unknown and local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
