The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) on Thursday sent its “deepest and heartfelt condolences” to the family and friends of the former Kaizer Chiefs and Manning Rangers player, Isaac Shakes Kungwane.
“[Kungwane] will be remembered by all the football loving nation of our country, for he has been the great Ambassador for our South African Football to the rest of the world. Rest in peace Qabani, our leader,” said SAFPU spokesperson, Peter Fire Khoabane.
The Democratic Alliance has also sent their condolences, and said Kungwane was a “legend on the pitch with unrivalled flair and passion for the game.”
“Many of us who were fortunate to watch him play football, for both club and country, will forever treasure those moments,” said the DA Shadow Minister for Sports and Recreation, Winston Rabotapi.
The governing ANC party conveyed their condolences to Kungwane’s family and the soccer loving community of South Africa:
“We will miss Khungwane’s eloquent and informing comments that was enlightening to ardent followers of soccer. May his soul rest in peace!” said the party on their Twitter feed.
“We believe that Shakes Khungwane’s legacy will live on and inspire future generations who will emulate his prowess in the field.”

It is understood that Kungwane spent two days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before passing away on Wednesday.
