Hout Bay fire leaves 200 homeless

The fire mostly affected people from the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement where about 60 homes were destroyed in the blaze which was quickly contained by more than 20 firefighters.

ER24 was alerted to the fire with reports of multiple people trapped at the back of the building.

More than 200 people are believed to have been displaced by fires in Hout Bay on Monday.

The fire mostly affected people from the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement where about 60 homes were destroyed in the blaze which was quickly contained by more than 20 firefighters.

People in the populated area of Dontse-Yakhe were also affected, as well as in Hout Bay.

No injuries were reported.

This comes after about 1 000 people were left homeless after a fire broke out in Imizamo Yethu just after Christmas Day.

One person died in the flames and about 600 homes were gutted.
