Pic of the Day: Lift off!
The United Launch Alliance (ULA) sent an unmanned Atlas V rocket into orbit from Florida on Sunday.
The rocket launched the EchoStar XIX (or EchoStar 19) satellite from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
In the mission statement, ULA representatives wrote that the “EchoStar XIX will be the world’s highest capacity broadband satellite in orbit, dramatically increasing capacity for HughesNet high-speed satellite Internet service to homes and businesses in North America.”
Sunday’s launch was the ULA’s last launch for 2016, and marked the 115th launch for the company in its 10-year existence.
