Maritzburg United and Zimbabwe international forward Evans Rusike says that Tendai Ndoro’s goals will be vital in their African Cup of Nations campaign.
Ndoro has been in fine form for Orlando Pirates, netting 12 goals in 17 matches in all competitions, and Rusike is hopeful his compatriot can replicate his goal-scoring form for the Warriors.
“Ndoro is on top of his game and we hope that will come in handy in the AFCON,” Rusike told African Football.
“We will need his goal-scoring form to inspire the team.”
Zimbabwe are spoilt for choice in the attacking department, with the likes of Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona, Nyasha Mushekwi, Matthew Rusike and Malajila all being selected by coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
Despite his team going into the tournament with a record of just one defeat in their last 12 fixtures – Rusike is under no illusions as to the task which lays ahead of them.
Having been drawn in a group alongside Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia, the 26-year-old says that going into the tournament as underdogs could prove to be beneficial.
“It’s always good going to a tournament as an underdog,” he added. “No one takes notice of you.
“That’s what we’re hoping for. We will go there and play our game.”
“We understand that we are drawn in a tough group, but we are ready.
“We’re not the ones under pressure – those three teams are as they have the top players,” he concluded.
