The Vaal Dam levels increased by at least 1.15% over the weekend, according to Johannesburg Water.
Dam levels have been low, so the recent rain has been welcome.
At the end of 2016, water restrictions were enforced on certain areas in Gauteng and Cape Town.
Reports say that water levels in dams have continued to decrease in the last two weeks, and the department is hopeful that last week’s rainfall has remedied this.
The Water and Sanitation Department’s Sputnik Ratau says “In the overall, we’ve seen a little bit of 3.2% decrease in dam levels. We’re hoping that the rains that are currently falling will reverse that decrease.”
The South African Weather Service says that Gauteng can expect cloudy conditions on Monday.
A 30% chance of rain is expected.
