The Tshwane metro police officer accused of shooting a motorist without provocation on Friday is set to appear in court in Hatfield on Friday.
The officer, Constable Takatso Mashigo, alleges that provocation in the incident. According to his legal council, Peter Jay, Mashigo was bumped twice by the victim Tsakani Shimange’s Toyota sedan.
Details of the incident remain sketchy, with Mashigo’s partner during the incident saying “I am still shocked at what has happened – but what I know is that it is very difficult to work with the public. We are provoked every day by arrogant and violent [people].”
The 27-year old Mashigo appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The state requested a postponement to Friday to verify Mashigo’s address.
The Tshwane metro police are investigating the incident.
