Yes, we did!
Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States, delivered his farewell speech in his adoptive home city of Chicago.
For the most part forceful, but tearing up towards the end, outgoing President Obama used his final speech as leader of one of the most powerful nations in the world to offer the country words of encouragement for the future.
The president’s speech touched on the highlights and lowlights of his tenure, and reiterated his belief in the people of America and sharing the way they inspired him with their “boundless capacity” to recreate their world, saying “the future should be ours.”
He also used his speech to remind supporters of the country’s proud heritage of peaceful transfers of power between presidencies.
Obama served two terms and was the first black man elected president of the United States of America.
