Chaos erupts at Loftus Versfeld

Chaos erupted at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, when the Absa Premiership fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates was temporarily suspended with just ten minutes to play.

At the time of writing, authorities had indicated that an assessment would be conducted before a decision was made on whether to continue with the match on Saturday or call it off.

Referees were forced to halt play, after Pirates fans expressed their disapproval of what was the likely outcome in this match, which Sundowns had led 6-0 after 80 minutes. The broadcast coverage for that match was then cut, after a group of unruly fans then tinkered with the tv cables at the ground.

Security was unable to stabilise the situation, as fans invaded the field, and players were subsequently taken off for safety.
