The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court has denied the bail application of the woman arrested for possession of drugs at OR Tambo International Airport.
Information that a drug mule had boarded a flight from Sao Paulo on Saturday evening led to the arrest of Lenna de Waal during a routine check on Sunday morning.
Five kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of two million rand, was discovered wrapped in foil inside the 33-year-old suspect’s luggage.
The Hawks are investigating dealings in Brazil of De Waal, who is from Namibia.
“We are still investigating the matter and in the investigation we are looking to also establish what she was doing in Brazil,” said Ndivhuwo Mulamu, Hawks Gauteng spokesperson.
De Waal will appear in court on 25 April.
