On Thursday a community meeting that was meant to take place between Police Minister Fikile Mbalula and residents of Vuwani, Limpopo, did not take place due to a no-show by residents.
Mbalula was meant to address the community in response to all the protest action in the area.
According The Citizen, Mbalula arrived in Vuwani with the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Des van Rooyen by helicopter. Mbalula was expected to address the community after a meeting with local traditional leaders.
According to reports, vehicles at the community hall where the meeting was meant to take place were seen leaving around 15:00 and all the doors were closed.
No community members were seen at the premises.
Mbalula left Vuwani shortly after his meeting with traditional leaders, claiming that he had some place else to be.
A spokesperson for the Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task Team, Nsovo Sambo, said the ministers’ visit to the area was a clear indication that the government intends to silence the protesting residents of Vuwani.
