Police are hunting a group of armed men who brazenly blew up a drop safe at a garage in Nelson Mandela Bay on Wednesday.
According to reports, an armed gang of eight men arrived at the Caltex Garage in Perseverance around 15:00 on Wednesday afternoon. They entered the shop and tied up the two cashiers on duty and locked them in the bathroom.
They then used an unknown explosive device to blow open the drop safe, taking an undisclosed amount of money with them.
The men arrived in a white Quantum minibus, but escaped in a different car.
"The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a white Nissan bakkie. This vehicle was discovered abandoned shortly thereafter in Zwide‚" a statement by police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said.
