Local officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed that the country is currently experiencing an outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease.
The health ministry issued a statement on Tuesday, confirming that 21 patients have presented signs of hemorrhagic fever, while 17 deaths have been reported.
Medical teams have been dispatched to the area.
Samples have been taken from five suspected active cases, with two testing positive.
The ministry said the two cases tested positive for the Zaire strain of the Ebola virus, Reuters reports.
