A 22-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a two-year-old in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.
Little Hakeem Baartman died after he was hit by a stray bullet in November last year. Hakeem was hit in the head and died at the scene.
According to reports, the suspect started shooting at a 17-year-old who was sitting outside his home. When the teen started running, the suspect started chasing him, while firing his weapon. Hakeem was then hit by a stray bullet and died.
The suspect, who is an alleged gang member, was arrested at a tavern in Gelvandale.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, confirmed that the shooting was gang-related.
“Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
