Opposition parties don’t seem to be in agreement on rules governing the impeachment process for President Jacob Zuma.
Mmusi Maimane said Baleka Mbete now had no choice but to spearhead impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma.
Taking to Twitter during Tuesday night’s impeachment debate, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela defended herself against Deputy Justice Minister John Jeffrey’s statement that even she was unsure about how much power her office holds.
Former finance minister Trevor Manuel said in an interview with Soweto TV that President Jacob Zuma should step down.
The motion will be heard in Parliament’s National Assembly at 14:00 on Tuesday.
All opposition parties met before the the impeachment debate of President Jacob Zuma, allegedly to ‘formalise a plan should the votes go in favour of the President’.
Zuma, who has been the subject of considerable controversy throughout his tenure at the helm, was found to have acted inconsistently with the constitution during his handling of the Public Protector’s report on the security upgrades to his Nkandla homestead.
