Two women and four men, believed to be relatives of the deceased, have been arrested for the attack and murder of 52 year old Catherina Nkovani from Thomo village in Limpopo last month.
Nkovani was murdered after the death of her sister-in-law who passed away after a long illness. After the woman’s funeral community members, including the husband of the deceased, accused Nkovani was bewitching her sister-in-law.
Nkovani was attacked shortly after, only a few metres from the cemetery. According to Limpopo police she was beaten with an assortment of objects before being set alight.
Emergency services were called and managed to get her to hospital alive, but she died a day later from the severity of her injuries.
The six suspects aged between 37 and 27 have since been arrested and are due to appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police said investigations into the matter are continuing and more arrests will be made.
