SA airports in world top 10 for punctuality

Three of South Africa’s largest airports have achieved the historic milestone of being listed in the top 10 punctual airports in the world.

O.R. Tambo International placed 8th in the Large Airport category, Cape Town International placed 6th in the Medium Airport category, with King Shaka International placing 10th in the Small Airport category.

Andre Vermeulen, Airports Company South Africa’s (ACSA) Group Executive for Airport Management, expressed the team’s excitement at the achievement, saying “We are very excited and proud to be recognised in the very prestigious Punctuality League, especially during a year where we saw significant growth in passenger numbers. Ensuring that our passengers arrive and depart on time is a collaborative effort with all role players in the airport community.”

ACSA’s Airport Management Centre (AMC), the nerve centre of airport operations, is credited with being a significant cog in the wheel of achieving on-time performance at the airport.

Vermeulen also acknowledged staff contributions to the achievement, saying “We would not have achieved this huge milestone without all our staff who work tirelessly in the front line and behind the scenes to make sure that our service and performance is recognised globally.”

OAG Aviation Worldwide is the agency which manages the annual Punctuality League that monitors punctuality performances of airlines and airports globally.

A minimum of 80% of flights operating from an airport gets monitored by OAG Aviation Worldwide for inclusion in the Punctuality League.
