Mount Etna roars to life
Europe’s largest and most active volcano, Mount Etna, reminded residents that she is still a force to be reckoned with when she roared to life spectacularly over the last week.
Mount Etna, situated on the island of Sicily, sent fountains of molten rock and ash into the air, which could be seen from miles away.
The volcano’s frequent eruptions are closely monitored. A massive eruption in the 17th century actually changed the shape of Sicily’s coastline with the amount of lave it released.
The eruptions began on Monday and are expected to last for several more days. Authorities have reported that surrounding towns are not in any danger. Read more.
