A group of rookie female officers were highly praised after they caught a group of armed men believed to have robbed a McDonald’s outlet in Pixley Isa Ka Seme Street in Durban.
The six suspects are reported to have held up employees at the McDonald’s outlet.
It is believed that the officers were patrolling the area with some of their male colleagues. They were alerted to the robbery by a passerby. When they arrived at the scene, the suspects fled in a minibus taxi.
The rookie officers were able to stop the vehicle and retrieve the money that was stolen in the heist, as well as unlicensed firearms.
The female officers caught the suspects without firing a single shot.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane praised the officers for their bravery and “exemplary work in a stressful and dangerous situation”.
