NYC street art honours Esther Mahlangu

A mural celebrating South African contemporary artist Esther Mahlangu has been put up in New York City.

South Africa’s unique art and culture will be taking to the streets of New York as a part of a month-long partnership with Citi Bike.

Created by Imani Shanklin Roberts, the mural is situated on Franklin Street and the West Broadway Citi Bike station in Tribeca.

The mural covers a two-lane road and features Ndebele symbols which Roberts says are a celebration of feminine energy.
