Windhoek Oktoberfest Cape Town opens this weekend


Windhoek Oktoberfest at Hillcrest Quarry opens on October 20 will see the official  “Hacker-Festzelt” German Kirchdorfer band performing. 

The opening of the keg will take place on Friday night. With the exclamation “O`zapft is!” (“It`s tapped!”), the first beer will be handed to the *representative of the city, who will then declares the Windhoek Oktoberfest in Cape Town officially open. This is a special “Festbier” available which is brewed specially for the Oktoberfest by braumeister Christian Müller.

This authentic German beer is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot, the 1516 Bavarian Purity Law. Gerhard Fourie – Councillor: the City of Cape Town and Teresa Uys – Councillor: Durbanville will be in attendance for the opening.

The Kirchdorfer band will be performing:
The official band in the “Hacker-Festzelt” at the Octoberfest in Munich since 1994 and will be flying in to perform at the Windhoek Oktoberfest in Cape Town. Catch them live at Windhoek Oktoberfest on Friday all night, Saturday 12h15, 13h45, 20h00 and 22h30 and on Sunday 15h30 and 16h45. There will also be further live entertainment by bands and DJ`s throughout the weekend.

Schuhplattler dancers:
Schuhplattler is a traditional style of folk dance. In this dance, the performers stomp, clap and strike the soles of their shoes (Schuhe), thighs and knees with their hands held flat (Platt).
