Children killed in explosion at Tanzanian school

An explosion at a school in Tanzania has killed at least six children and injured more than 20 others, BBC reports.

Witnesses say that incident occurred at a primary school in Kihinga village near the Tanzania/Burundi border when an object the children were playing with exploded.

Three children were reportedly killed immediately, although there has been no official confirmation of this.

According to a doctor at the hospital where the injured were admitted, Dr Maria Goreth Fredericks, 25 people were admitted for treatment. Three children have since died.

Kagera regional police commander Augustine Orome said that police have been dispatched to the school to investigate the tragedy.
