Dlamini-Zuma gets president nod from ANCWL

The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) has put forward its list of preferred candidates for president and the top six.

The candidates were discussed at the league’s extended National Executive Committee meeting held over the weekend.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is unsurprisingly, their preferred candidate for president.

The rest of the candidates put forward by the league include current Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza for deputy president, Nathi Mthethwa for chairperson, Free State Premier Ace Magashule for Secretary-General, Jesse Duarte his deputy, and International Relation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane as Treasurer-General.

According to a report by The Citizen, the league said that additional members of the party’s NEC would have a 50/50 gender split.

The paper also reports that despite receiving the ANCWL’s vote for president of the party, Dlamini-Zuma was not so fortunate as to enjoy the support of her home branch.

The Gedleyihlekisa branch in Durban has reportedly thrown its full support behind her main rival, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.
