Zimbabwe’s Mnangagwa calls for an end to Western sanctions

Zimbabwe’s new president Emmerson Mnangagwa wants sanctions set by Western countries to be removed saying they are destroying national development.

Sanctions in the United State according to the Trump administration will be not be removed unless political change happens.

“We call for the unconditional lifting of the political and economic sanctions, which have crippled our national development,” said Mnangagwa.

Elections in Zimbabwe are expected to be held next year in Zimbabwe but Mnangagwa hinted that they could be brought forward.

Mnangagwa speaking to Zanu-PF party leaders said that the government would ensure that elections are credible, free and fair.

Robert Mugabe last month resigned after being forced out of office.
