Woman and three sons found dead in Sterkfontein Dam

Free State police are searching for answers, after the bodies of a 35-year-old woman and her three sons were found in the Sterkfontein Dam this weekend.

It was by chance that private divers were visiting the dam, when a submerged Toyota Tazz was discovered. Police were subsequently alerted to the discovery and the vehicle was retrieved – with the four bodies still inside it. The circumstances behind this incident remain unclear.

What authorities do know, at this juncture, is that there were further incidents connected to the family in question. The woman and her three sons were from Lusaka and were last spotted at the dam on Friday, at about 9pm.

“A separate case of arson was registered for investigation on January 5, 2018, after the family house and a Toyota Siyaya taxi of the deceased were found burnt,” said police spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo.

“No one was at the house at the time of the incident,” added Mbambo.

“Further investigation will determine if there is connection between the two incidents as well as the motive behind both incidents.” said Mbambo.
