Isibaya shows that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Minnie Dlamini’s 2017 wedding proved to be a key moment for television, with fans in awe of both her wedding dresses.

Local Mzansi Magic soapie Isibaya is also gearing up for an auspicious wedding – that of Zama, played by Linda Mtoba and Jabu, played by Pallance Dladla.

But the show has been called out for imitation after Zalebs showed behind-the-scenes images of the dress Zama would be wearing.

The dress that the actress would be wearing had a striking resemblance to Minnie Dlamini’s traditional gown, designed by Asanda Madyibi.

The local designer has not taken lightly to seeing a replica of her dress being used on the popular soapie.

“Speechless! They say imitation is the highest form of flattery! Is this flattering? In the history of South African television production weddings, I have never seen such! The article @zalebs is not flattering to my art quote ‘ she looked as gorgeous as Minnie Dlamini at her traditional wedding.’ Ok” she wrote on Instagram.

Asanda went on to reveal that the design was used without her consent by Isibaya.

“My ideas, concepts and designs are my money. When the producers of #isibayamzansimagic decide to copy my design without my consent, I must protect my assets,” the irate designer wrote.
