Three people have died, after two bakkies collided at the intersection of Welbeck and Bokkie Delport street in Meyerton on Saturday afternoon.

Initial reports suggest that one bakkie struck a cow and was then hit head-on by another bakkie. The cow was also killed.

In addition, four people sustained varying injuries in the horror crash. When emergency officials arrived at the scene of the accident, one of the bakkies were found just off the road, while the other was on its roof.

“Two people were still inside the bakkie that was lying on its roof. Unfortunately, they were both declared dead,” said ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen.

“Another person was lying a few metres away from the bakkie and he had also succumbed to his injuries. Paramedics also found another patient that had sustained serious injuries. Three others sustained minor injuries,” added Van Huyssteen.

“The ER24 Oneplan helicopter transported the seriously injured patient to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further medical care.”
