Keri Hilson shares about her battle with depression

Have you ever wondered what on earth happened to Knock You Down hitmaker, Keri Hilson? Well, the singer finally revealed why she has been silent for these past few years.

The world fell in love with Keri for some of her most popular tracks including Pretty Girl Rock, Energy and The Way I Are. But while most  began to focus on other artists, Keri decided to take a break from the spotlight as she was “fighting her own demons”.

Speaking at the “Silence the Shame” panel in Atlanta, Keri admitted that she was battling depression.

“When Pretty Girl Rock was at the top of the charts, I was bearing the weight of some personal and professional mistakes and they just weighed so heavy on my spirit and I just wasn’t myself,” she said.

The singer explained that she took a break from social media as well, saying that she didn’t need to see the praise or negative comments from people who didn’t know her personally.

She also admitted that ending her relationship of 11 years was also a trigger in her depression.

“It all just kind of spiralled for me and became something I had never been through; I had never recognised myself as a person who can’t pick themselves back up. I mean, I was literally on stage crying,” she said.

The Knock You Down hitmaker said she finally decided to speak out about it because she wanted to inspire others to speak up about whatever they dealing with too.
