South African Police are still searching for answers, following the violent protests that continued in the Limpopo province this week.
The latest community to be rocked was the Sekgopo Village in Tzaneen on Tuesday night, where protesters went on the rampage and torched people’s homes.
That was compounded by the blockades on the R81 between Polokwane and Giyani, which was barricaded with burning tyres and rubble. While the situation has since calmed down, it does not appear authorities have a firm handle on the protests.
Acting Provincial Commissioner in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned the violence, but not much is being achieved beyond that.
“The motive behind this incident is still not clear at this stage but the Police investigations will tell as they are still unfolding,” said police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
“The suspects involved in this incident are still unknown and there is no arrest,” added Ngoepe.
