Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola was delighted to play a part for the team in their 1-0 win over Chippa United on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old did not feature in the Premiership opener against Highlands Park on Saturday, but was happy to regain his place in the starting line-up and help the Sea Robbers clinch their first victory of the new season.
Makola believes his understanding with Xola Mlambo and Musa Nyatama played a crucial role in the Soweto giants winning the battle in midfield to walk away with the three points in midweek.
Pirates will now switch their attention to the MTN8 and Saturday’s clash with SuperSport United.
“Yes, obviously we have been working hard during pre-season with the combinations. We got a lot of new players in the team, but needed to be consistent in the midfield to win the game,” Makola told SuperSport.
“I just came in and did my part. Obviously we have been playing together for a while now. We played together last season and we kind get along very well.
“We know the weaknesses and strength of each other and I think we are complementing each other very well. It’s a well-oiled machine. I’m glad that I played and did my part against Chippa.”
