Newly-signed Bidvest Wits defender Vuyo Mere says now is not the time for the club to talk about winning the Premiership title despite their good start.
The Students are at the summit with six points after two impressive victories over Free State Stars and Kaizer Chiefs, but Mere said they are taking it one game at the time.
The 34-year old believes Gavin Hunt has assembled a good squad to compete for honours, but the team will need to be consistent throughout season to go all the way.
“It’s too early. Yes, we are doing well, but we just want to go on about it quietly. I know that we are now going to get a lot of attention. It’s not what we wanted,” Mere told the SABC.
“We have got one of the most exciting and hardworking teams in the league this season.
“Even the coach said it that when they won the league two seasons ago, he did not have the talented team as the current squad. So, if we believe in ourselves because I really believe that we have a good team, then we can go all the way.
“Wits are a team that is always attracting good players and this season they got one of the best and talented players. They can go all the way, but it’s not going to be easy. They will have to work hard and do it as a team.”
