A man has died after an embankment he was working on collapsed, burying him under a load of sand.
The victim, believed to be in his twenties, was working on an embankment on the corner of Westcliff Drive and Presley Avenue in Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal.
A member of the public called Rescue Care Paramedics for assistance. When they arrived at the scene, they found the man trapped under a load of sand.
When paramedics were finally able to reach him and assess him, they found that he had already succumbed to the severity of his injuries.
The South African Police Service’s Search and Rescue team, as well as the Durban Fire Department then took control of the scene.
At this stage, it is not known what caused the incident which occurred around 13:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Police were on the scene and are investigating.
