One killed in Eskom power station explosion


An explosion at Eskom’s Lethabo Power Station in the Vaal has left one person dead and one injured.

The explosion occurred on Wednesday and is said to have been caused by a power failure.

“The most important thing as to secure the area to make sure that we don’t have anyone trapped or anything of that sort. But so far after the dust has settled, that’s when it was discovered that one person lost their life,” said spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe.

Eskom is investing the major incident that took place at Unit 5 of the Lethabo power station.
