Pope Francis has likened abortion to hiring a “contract killer”.
Francis has opposed a bill to legalise abortion in Argentina – and his recent comments came during a formal address at Saint Peter’s Square.
“Interrupting a pregnancy is like eliminating someone,” he said.
“Getting rid of a human being is like resorting to a contract killer to solve a problem.
“Is it just to resort to a contract killer to solve a problem?
“How can an act that suppresses innocent life be therapeutic, civil or even human?”
Earlier this year, a lay campaign group confirmed many Argentine Catholics opposed Franchis’ opposition to the bill by renouncing their membership of the church.
