A 57-year-old woman was convicted and sentenced to ten years of direct imprisonment for trafficking in persons.

In May 2018, Judith Nyantumba smuggled a six-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa and later exploited him to work for her without payment.

“The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit took over the case immediately after it was reported and ensured that the suspect was brought to book,” a police statement read.

She was sentenced in the Carolina Regional Court on Thursday.
