Former Oudtshoorn teacher arrested for fraud

Police have arrested a 42-year-old woman for alleged fraud in Oudtshoorn, Western Cape. 

Former Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET), teacher, Tasmyn Lynn Dorothy appeared at the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court for alleged fraud on August 12, 2019, following her arrest on the same day.

According to police reports, between January 2010 and May 2013 Dorothy who worked as a teacher and a manager at different learning centres around Oudtshoorn "registered ghost learners, thereby inflating the actual numbers of registered students in order to gain financial benefits from the Western Cape Department of Education."

The department consequently lost R946 538 from her illegal activities.

The case against Dorothy was postponed to September 6, 2019. She was released on R2500 bail.
