Police confirmed on Tuesday morning that a woman was shot and killed in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
JMPD spokesperson chief superintendent Wayne Minnaarsaid that the shooting occurred on the corner of Kotze and Claim streets. It is believed the woman was shot twice at close range.
Another person was shot and killed after he was caught in the crossfire in the area.
According to reports, it is still unknown if the shooting is related to the riots that occurred in various parts of Johannesburg.
Minnaar said that the cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
Foreign business owners in Johannesburg CBD were forced to flee due to the recent unrest. Officials helped them move their assets overnight.
Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to meet with community leaders of the affected areas on Tuesday.
