The murder case of a young Beaufort West mother has been postponed until next month.

Anthea Thopps was found dead in her home in Karoo town in July. Her body was discovered by her mother.

Jacobus Plaatjies is believed to have been behind Thopps' murder.

The 35-year-old suspect was arrested after police traced Thopps' stolen cellphone. Plaatjies faces charges of murder, rape, housebreaking and theft.

Police confirmed that the suspect attempted to run when he realized that investigators were closing in on him.

Plaatjies appeared in the local magistrate's court on Thursday.

The case has been postponed to October.
